Pasanga 2
- Haiku
Direction: Pandiraj
Cast: Surya, Amala Paul, Nishesh, Vaishnavi
Pasanga
2 is
National Award-winning director Pandiraj’s third film in the children’s series.
Kavin
and Nayana are two children who get pushed out of schools because of their hyperactive
activities. Their parents are not able to bear the attitude of their children
and transfer them through many schools. Accidentally, they end up with a child
psychiatrist, Tamizh Naadan (Surya) and his wife, Venba (Amala Paul) . They
help the parents understand their children.
Pandiraj’s
Pasanga 2 has a novel core plot — Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
(ADHD) — but the film takes an awfully long time to get to the point, and when
it does, it spins out of focus, weighing us down with inane incidents and
slapstick humour. It is once again a classic case of Tamil cinema starting with
a remarkably interesting storyline, but messing it up with bad scripting and
ideas liberally borrowed from other movies. One can see bits and pieces of
Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par and even Mani Ratnam’s Anjali.
Suriya and Amala
Paul play more than a cameo in the film. Suriya is a child psychiatrist and
Amala, a patient and understanding teacher. Suriya seems in his comfort zone
and has a great time with the children. Amala looks gorgeous in her simple
sarees and is equally impressive.
Both Bindhu and
Vidhya are apt in the roles of young and educated mothers.
Like his previous
two films, Pasanga 2 has its fair share of fun, laughter and
emotions, along with valuable lessons to be learnt and understood. There,
however, does seem to be a tendency to overstate and dramatise the
obvious.
Nevertheless, there
are several innocently uttered dialogues from the mouth of little children that
hit you hard and leave you feeling guilty.
This is Suriya’s
second production after the successful 36 Vayadhinile and he
definitely has another winner in his hands.
